What will your students be researching? What are your learning outcomes for this project?: | The students have already submitted their first essay, which did not use secondary sources. Essays 2 - 4 require 2 secondary sources each. Essay two will be based on either Martin Luther King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" or based on cause and effect, chapter 9 in the textbook: (topics: pick a disturbing fact or situation that you have observed, and seek out its causes and/or effects to help us understand the issue; Pick a change that has taken place during your lifetime, and explore the causes and/or effects; write a letter to someone who could make a change that you advocate; read a newspaper or magazine article that probes cause of some contemporary problem. essay 3: excerpt from Frederick Douglass, chapters 6 - 8, or Peter Singer and Jim Mason (Eating) or chapter 12 from the textbook: supporting a position with sources: identify a cluster of readings about a topic that interests you. From that information, develop a position about a topic. essay 4: write an essay |
