The Stress of Her Regard, by Tim Powers is the main text. All the rest I am doing with handouts (actually pdf’s the students can download through Canvas. The novel is a modern Gothic novel. The author has done extensive research into the lives and writings of Keats, Byron and the Shelleys and the conceit is that the poet’s inspiration comes from being hosts to vampires/lamia/nephalim, who also give them long lives but kill all others they are close to. When the poets chose to save the one’s they love, they must cast off the attentions of their succubi and so die.
