Series Overview: Each session will be devoted to discussing current issues that occurred or are re-occurring in their classroom. How should you handle behavioral issues, prevent disruptions, defend academic freedom and free speech, and sustain a well-managed classroom. Topics will be generated based on previous discussion, urgency, and prevalence on campus.
Session Description: This session provides faculty with an overview of their rights and responsibilities when supporting students with disabilities. Participants will explore how to balance accommodations with maintaining academic standards.
Objectives:
1. Identify faculty rights and responsibilities under disability accommodation laws (Section 504, 508, ADAAAA).
2. Recognize how to collaborate effectively with Student Accessibility Services to support students who are at-risk.
3. Understand best practices for maintaining academic standards while providing accommodations.
