This is not a required course. Participation is voluntary and optional.
In this introductory session, participants will explore the foundations of High Impact Practices (HIPs) and their role in enhancing student learning and engagement. Through guided discussion and practical examples, the session will cover what defines a practice as “high impact,” key elements that contribute to its effectiveness, how HIPs shape the undergraduate experience, and strategies for integrating and assessing HIPs—especially for underserved student populations.
Learning Objectives:

Define High Impact Practices and identify the core elements that contribute to their effectiveness in undergraduate education.

Examine examples of HIPs and evaluate how they can be adapted and applied within diverse instructional contexts.

Explore strategies for assessing student engagement in HIPs, with attention to equity and inclusion for underserved populations.
