Chapter 2: Neuroscience and Biological Foundations Brain plasticity (functional/structural) and neurogenesis Drugs and how they affect the brain (at the Synaptic Gap) How stress affects learning, emotions, memory or health How to improve brain function Chapter 4: Sensation and Perception Subliminal perception and its influence on behavior Critical time frames in development for visual and/or auditory processing The influence of pheromones in human behavior The relationship between smell and memory Methods to deal with pain without the use of drugs Chapter 5: States of Consciousness Multi-tasking and productivity Effects of sleep-deprivation on health The use of hypnosis in mitigating pain or anxiety
What will your students do or create with the sources they find?: Library Assignment You will need to find at least 2 psychology journal articles in the SAC database (published within the last 15 years). The article must be empirical in nature based on experimental research. The article can be on any topic of your choice, as long as it is a psychology journal article (NOT an article on a website) reporting a study in the field of human sexuality. Every empirical psychology journal article follows the same format. It consists of sections such as an introduction, methods, results and discussion. These sections are clearly labeled (except introduction) and follow the right sequence. If the article you found does not have these labeled sections, you have found the wrong article. Once you have found 2 journal articles (both having to do with the same topic, or different topics) you will need to submit the following information (uploading a Word document in Canvas): Journal Article #1 1. Explain what topic you are interested in researching.
On the day students attend the library class, **at what point will they be** in their research process?: general area of research identified; they will need help narrowing and defining a specific research topic
