What general area of research or topics will your students be exploring?: Essay 1: Poetry Explication with research In an essay of 2-4 pages, make explicit the meaning of one of the poems we have read in class in the first four weeks. Your aim in the explication is to research and respond to the scholarship on the poem, to discuss the literary techniques the author employs, and the ultimate implicit understanding of the poem, as you see it. MLA style documentation is required. Outside research is required; minimum three sources. Be sure to cite your sources and turn in copies of your sources. Essay 2: Fiction Explication with research In an essay of 4-5 pages, make explicit the meaning and historical. biographical, sociological, political or psychological context of one of the stories we have read in class. Your aim in the explication is to discuss the literary techniques the author employs, and your ultimate understanding of the poem. Minimum three sources required. MLA documentation required.  
What will your students do or create with the sources they find?: Synthesize into essay
